Fionntán Price

Fionntán Price (he/they) is a non-binary butch and TV comedy screenwriter. He holds dual citizenship in Ireland and the United States of America. As a teenager, he was the first minor in his U.S. state to be granted a legal name/gender change on the basis of trans identity. (He’d originally been named after a mythological Irish princess… And that definitely didn’t fit!)

Price also draws comedic inspiration out of penning jokes despite rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and an unspecified/NOS communication disorder — which still don’t stop him from screenwriting in both English and Irish! Learning to work with his brain/body, instead of against them, led to Price earning a BA in English Creative Writing while simultaneously relearning how to walk and type.

Previously, Price has worked as Staff Writer (indie/web animated pilot by Ringtail Cafe Productions); Story Writer (on the interactive story app Chapters); and Storyboard Artist/Co-Director (commissioned animated short by Irish poet). Outside of screenwriting, he delivers alcohol for grocery apps often enough to know the supermarket night managers’ favorite sitcoms.

Price’s screenwriting focus may be eagerly placed on TV comedy overall, but he has an extra-special fondness for the many sub-genres of adult animation!

As one of 2024’s Writing for Adult Animation Intensive Fellows, Price can’t wait to join this cohort in exploring the vast possibilities for disabled storytelling in adult animation. He’s eager to celebrate what the next century of animated series, movies, and shorts has in store — and he’s endlessly thankful for every ounce of below-the-line labor it takes to produce even a single second of it. Price hopes to see the animation industry all across the globe continue growing toward safety and security for every worker.

After an extensive search and interview process, 5 individuals were invited to participate in an intensive session for disabled writers interested in writing for adult animation, taking place May 13-16, with additional virtual sessions taking place in partnership with the virtual cohort, May – September 2024. Participants include people with a variety of disabilities ranging in age from the 20s through the 40s. This intensive elevates disabled creatives, focusing on building community, networking, and career advancement through a variety of speakers and a pitching workshop.
